U.S. Navy Awards Northrop Grumman Contract for E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Aug. 12, 2013 – The U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a $617 million contract for five full-rate production Lot 1 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

With the Navy’s E-2D program of record at 75 aircraft, this contract award is another step forward in bringing the total current procurement of E-2D aircraft, including low-rate initial production and full-rate production aircraft, to 30.

THS3 Hybrid Capacitors provide the very high power pulse capability necessary for the " two-generation leap in radar sensor capability" of the new phased element radar on the E2D.  The high power requirements of the radar require a considerable number of capacitors, so Evans developed the THS3 style hybrid capacitor with an almost square shaped package. This provides high energy density and maximum utilization of SWaP.
