RIPPLE CURRENT CAPABILITY

To determine the ripple current capability of Evans Hybrid Capacitors, download the applicable charts linked below.
These charts provide temperature rise data, as a function of input ripple current in free air

To determine the ripple current capability from the charts:

1.  Find the resistance of the specific capacitor at the applied frequency on the impedance vs. frequency curve (check here).  If unknown, use 1kHz ESR.

2a.  If temperature rise is desired, multiply the square of the rms ripple current value by the resistance to find power dissipation.  Use the chart of Temperature Rise vs. Power Dissipation to look up the temperature rise.

2b.  If ripple current is desired, use the chart of Temperature Rise vs. Power Dissipation  to look up power dissipation at temperature rise and take the square root of the quantity power/resistance to give current.
